The Election Commission moved the Chhattisgarh High Court challenging the CAT order quashing its directive to transfer two district collectors.

The Election Commission on Thursday moved the Chhattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order quashing its directive to transfer district collectors of Jashpur and Bastar in the poll-bound Chhattisgarh.

The Commission's move comes in the wake of the ruling by the CAT at Jabalpur on November 25 holding that the EC order on the transfers was "not only illegal, improper but against all the settled tenets of law. The CAT said it did not find anything prejudicial on the part of collectors to have violated the model code of conduct."

The Election Commission on October 29 had ordered transfer of Jashpur collector BS Anant and Bastar collector LN Suryavanshi for "violating the model code of conduct."
