Taking a stringent step to ensure free and fair Punjab Assembly elections, the state Chief Electoral Officer Kusumjit Sidhu has ordered immediate suspensions and transfers of a number of officers.
The CEO has directed immediate suspensions and transfers of a number of officers to ensure free and fair elections, Special Chief Electoral Officer Usha R Sharma said on Monday.
"Pradumman Singh, Principal ITI Sunam with additional charge of Nabha, has been suspended with immediate effect for his active involvement in political activities and using his influence to work for a candidate of a particular party," she said in an official press release.
Punjab State Electricity Board executive engineer Gursharan Singh Khaira, who was transferred a few days back on a complaint that he was using his official position to influence voters, has been suspended with immediate effect.
Kapurthala SHO Gurpreet Singh has been suspended for showing negligence in duty, the release said, adding that Gandiwind panchayat officer Gurpal Singh has been suspended.
Besides, Jagir Singh - a teacher posted at Behakbodala government high school in Fazilka - has been suspended for filing nomination papers without submitting his resignation to the department.
Sukhdev Singh Bhatti, commandant of 1st Commando Battalion Bahadurgarh whose wife is contesting election from Budhlada, has been transferred to Ludhiana.
Guru Harsahai SHO Mukhtiar Singh has also been transferred, the release said.
