EC to keep record of voters who come to booth but abstain

Election Commission of India today said it will maintain a record of every voter who declares at the polling booth that he/she has decided not to vote, in the coming Gujarat Assembly elections.

Election Commission of India on Thursday said it will maintain a record of every voter who declares at the polling booth that he/she has decided not to vote, in the coming Gujarat Assembly elections.

"On the instruction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), we have ordered all the officers on election duty to make arrangements to keep a record of all people who after coming to the polling booth declare that they have decided not to vote," state chief electoral officer Anita Karwal said.

Such voters will have to sign (or give thumb impression) against their name in the voter's register, she added.
