Eight people were drowned when a Haldwani-bound DTC bus fell into Peela Khar river due to dense fog near Rampur on Friday.

The bus from Delhi with nine passengers and two employees of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on board fell into the river due to dense fog this morning, Superintendent of Police DC Misha said.

While one of the passengers swam to safety and informed the police about the accident, the driver and conductor were also safe, Misra said.

Eight bodies have been pulled out by police and Provincial Armed Constabulary divers, Misra said adding the bus has also been fished out of the waters.
