Eighth batch of pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Another batch of more than 2,000 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for their onward journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir amid tight security arrangements.

Another batch of more than 2,000 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for their onward journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir amid tight security arrangements.

The eighth batch of pilgrims, consisting of 2,176 devotees, left from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 4:55 am, police said, adding that the convoy included 81 vehicles. The batch included 1,683 males, 456 females and 37 children.

In seven days a total of 18,167 pilgrims have left Jammu base camp for Amaranth so far.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of around 11,000 pilgrims left for the cave shrine from both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps on Thursday morning.

Police sources said that 5,777 pilgrims left from Baltal base camp, while 5,146 yatris left the Pahalgam base camp for the cave shrine.78,112 pilgrims have performed darshans till Wednesday this year since the yatra commenced on June 28.
