IT WAS a unique event. Thousands of people thronged Balrampur Gardens on Saturday evening not to attend a wedding but to listen to soulful bhajans of Sai Baba.

Manhar Udhas had the crowd spellbound with his almost non-stop three-and-a-half-hour-long bhajan session. The occasion was perfect for the release of Sai bhajan cassette Sai Safar by PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav and minister Arvind Singh Gope’.

His earlier cassettes had record sales of over one lakh with in 10 months of their release. After dabbling in playback and ghazals, it seems like Manhar has at last found his niche.

Manhar who is now recognised as the ‘official’ singer of Sai Baba Bhajans all over the country started the Bhajan evening with prayer of God in Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samprapha, followed by Gayatri Mantra OM Bhoorbhuvaswah Tatasaviturvarenyam.

The audience was mesmerised with his soulful presentation of Ga Le Sai Bhajan- Tu Hoja Magan. His next Bhajan made the devotees clap throughout Ab Samjhe Sabse Bada Sai Nath. Devotees took a dip in the ocean of worship through next bhajan Dheeraj Rakh woh Rehmat Barsa Hi Dega. His other Bhajans like Ankhen Band Karoon Ya Kholoon Mujhko Darshan Dena, and Roke Na Hame Sansar Hame Sai Ne Bulaya Hai took the audience in the world of Sai Bhakti.

Earlier, local Bhajan singer Kishore Chaturvedi presented Sai Bhajans. His Bhajans Bigdi Bana De and Madira Sai Nam Ki Pije… were welcomed with thunderous applause.

Pandit Razdan, is the lyricist of all the Sai bhajans sung by Manhar. Talking to HT Live Manhar Udhas said he starts his day with Sai bhajans. Manhar says he carved a niche for himself as a playback singer in film music even from the days of stalwarts such as Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi. Then he turned his attention to Sai Bhakti and sang Bhajans in praise of Sainath. Since then he kept on performing for Sai devotees in India and abroad.

Manhar Udhas said ,“I have 15 cassettes of Sai Bhajans in the past ten years. My voice is very familiar to Sai devotees in India and abroad from popular songs on Sainath of Shirdi such as Zamaane ki chinta mein kaahe padaa hai… Tere saath Saayee…tujhe fikar kyaa hai..” and “Sayee bharose…chal re musaafir… Sai bharose chal manzil khud aayegee…aaj nahee tho kal.”
