Beura, who is also the President of the Kendrapara Urban Cooperative Bank (KUCB), was arrested from his local residence and forwarded to court. A case was registered against him under various sections of IPC and Representation of Peoples' Act.
Earlier three other BJP leaders, Fakir Charan Behera, Jyoti Prakash Kar and Umakanta Kar were arrested on April 27 following the violence at the booth during which the electronic voting machines were damaged. They were, however, later released on bail.
Agrawal faced a stiff contest from Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP) candidate Utkal Keshari Parida in the Kendrapara constituency and the OGP chief Bijay Mohapatra had demanded the immediate removal of the District Collector and Superintendent of Police from the politically sensitive district following the incident.
