ELECTIONEERING IS at its peak for the post of chairman and vice-chairman of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, the apex body of State lawyers. Polling is scheduled to be held on Sunday May 7, 2006 at the headquarters of Bar Council at Thornhill Road, Allahabad.

Though 25 members of the Bar Council have to choose one chairman and one vice-chairman for a period of one year, the lawyers associated with them too are making all possible efforts to see their candidates as victorious.

So far, seven members of the Bar Council are in fray for the coveted post of chairman. They include Rama Kant Mishra, Ajay Yadav, Manoj Rajvanshi, Nakul Dubey, Shahnawaz Rana, Amarendra Singh and PK Singh.

Three candidates have filed their nomination papers for the post of vice-chairman. They include Hari Shankar Singh, Shahnawaz Rana and Ram Pratap Shukla.One Member of the Bar Council of India too will be chosen amongst the 25 members of the UP Bar Council on May 7 in the same meeting of members.

The name will be proposed by any member and thereafter the member having maximum supporters would be declared elected.

For one post of member of Bar Council of India, prominent candidates include, Shashi Kant Gupta, Gopal Narain Mishra, BK Srivastava, Balwant Singh, RK Mehrotra alias Rammi, Shahnawaz Rana and Rohitashwa Kumar Agrawal . HTC
