THE SAFFRON brigade is facing some embarrassing moments these days given the charges of corruption from different quarters levelled against an RSS activist and another person who used to frequent the BJP office for a few years.

One Bairagi was arrested by police on an FIR lodged by a trader who alleged that Bairagi impersonated as the Chief Minister’s PA and took Rs 50,000 from him.

The BJP sources said Bairagi got associated with the party as a member of election management team at the time of the State Assembly elections in 2003. He was introduced to the party by a party office-bearer. Later, he frequently visited the BJP office and was often seen in the company of a BJYM activist.

The sources said it is matter of investigation whether the alleged taking of money was an isolated incident or he had been indulging in this malpractice ever since he got associated with the party. W hether he was a member of the party or not was a technical issue but the incident had surely caused embarrassment to the party given his access to the BJP office and the leaders.

They said if the senior leaders in the party were oblivious of what Bairagi was doing in the office premises it should really sound surprising.

However, the fact also remained that the police must have sought consent of the BJP leaders before registering the FIR against him and arresting him. Thus, by ensuring his arrest, the BJP leaders tried to avoid more embarrassing moments his non-arrest would have caused to them and the party.

An RSS activist Anil Soumitra is fighting charges levelled against him by MAPCOST director Dr Janardan Negi. The latter has alleged that the former took grant from the organisation while claiming to be president of a social organisation. The fact was that he was not the president.

Soumitra is much active these days as Vishwa Samvad Kendra representative. He has termed the allegations as baseless.
