Upset with the recommendation, student leaders are mounting pressure on university authorities to conduct union election before any government order is issued to enforce the recommendations. While election in DDU Gorakhpur University is likely to be held after Dussehra, student leaders have planned to challenge the recommendations in the court.
The suggestions of the committee have also disturbed the political equation and planning of various student organisations. Student leaders and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s prospective candidate for the president’s post at Gorakhpur University Shrikant Mishra NSUI’s Umesh Vinay Singh along with Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha’s Shiv Kumar Tripathi will all be restrained from contesting as they have crossed the age limit of 25 years set by the panel. Mandatory 75 percent attendance in class has further aggravated their problems.
Meanwhile, making a mockery of the Lyngdoh Committee’s recommendations and Supreme Court nod to it, student leaders and their supporters displayed money and muscle power in nomination for various posts in DVN Degree College.
The supporters sprinkled abir and gulal, took out a large procession accompanied by four wheelers and motorcycles, taking no note of the expense limit fixed by the panel. When asked, election officer in DVNDC Dr BD Maurya said no order had come so far to enforce the recommendations, therefore no restriction was implemented.
However, proctor of Gorakhpur University Prof Rajendra Prasad said as the apex court had approved the recommendations, university authorities had ordered to remove all posters and banners from the premises.
He said that the order would be strictly implemented in the university.
