Mohd Farooq Ali, a second year engineering student at Azad Institute of Engineering and Technology, died when the two sides clashed over some petty issue last evening, they said.

"It is not yet clear whether Farooq died due to injuries sustained during the clash or of cardiac arrest as being claimed by the college authorities. We are waiting for the post mortem report," a senior officer said.

Meanwhile, four students and three teachers have been detained for questioning.

"Any arrest would be made only after the autopsy report is received," he said.
