Pet owners in the European Union are now required to carry passports ? obligatory for cats, dogs and ferrets ? that will provide proof that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies.
Pet owners in the European Union are required from Sunday to carry passports for their pets when travelling to another member-state.

"'This is a major step for the free movement of people with their pets," health and consumer protection commissioner David Byrne said in a statement.
To simplify bureaucratic hassles for travellers with their pets in the EU countires there is now one single passport for a pet which will be used in all member-states.
The passport, obligatory for cats, dogs and ferrets, will provide proof the animal has been vaccinated against rabies.
