AN INCIDENT of indecent behaviour with a woman passenger by a soldier of the Sikh Regiment on board 8101 Up Moorie Express led to a clash between the soldiers and passengers of the train here on Saturday.

In the aftermath of the incident, one of the two injured soldiers was rushed to the hospital. The clash took place near the Karchana railway station under the Industrial Area police station.

According to reports, the alleged misconduct of a soldier with a young woman who boarded the train with her family members at Mirzapur in coach S7 led to the clash. The soldier was probably in inebriated stated, the reports said.

Eye witnesses said when the soldier passed indecent remarks on the woman, her family members tried to settle the issue peacefully. But the soldier did not listen to them, and as the train arrived at the Meja , the soldier started harassing her again. The infuriated family members then clashed with the soldier.

It has been reported that the soldier brutally attacked one of the youth who was accompanying the young lady. The youth somehow managed to escape from there and hid in the toilet of the moving train for a long time.

This led to a rumour amongst other passengers of the youth having been tossed off the train by the soldiers which greatly agitated them.

The agitated passengers attacked the soldiers after pulling the alarm chain near Karchana railway station. Two soldiers Jagjeet Singh and Kuldeep Singh were pulled out of the train and thrashed by a mob even as other soldiers did a disappearing act.

The incident led to Jagjeet Singh sustaining serious injuries, which later required medical attention.

The situation could be brought under control only after cops reached the spot.

Police personnel also launched a search along the tracks after being informed that a young man has been thrown out of the train but in vain.

Following the melee, the aggrieved family too disappeared from the scene. Later, the matter was handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP).

The incident affected the movement of Up line North East Express and Kalka Mail while Moorie Express (8101) halted at many places that led to the train getting around three hours late besides suffering damages to the windows of the AC coaches.

On being contacted, Circle Officer (CO) Railway Allahabad SB Singh said inquiry has been initiated into the matter and the reports will be available by Sunday.
