“Jhuledar Pandey (56) used to travel by the Ahmedabad passenger train and show his expired identity card to win the commuters’ trust,” said S. Chougule, Assistant Police Inspector, GRP.

After they fell asleep, Pandey would flee with their baggage.

On June 4, Pandey stole the bag of a 27-year-old engineer who lodged a police complaint. After going through the CCTV footage at the platform, Pandey was identified.

Pandey had tried to use the the engineer’s debit card to withdraw Rs 15,000. The CCTV at the ATM captured his image and the police compared the two footages to zero in on Pandey.

On Tuesday, the police spotted Pandey at Bandra Terminus and arrested him. “Pandey, has been lifting bags for three years.

He has confessed to lifting seven bags but we suspect there are more cases,” Chougule said.
