In the letter, the DM has stated that the district administration is facing tough time in maintaining law and order situation in the absence of power in the city.

He also urges the principal secretary for regular power supply to the Ram Leelas.

On Tuesday night, the authorities had a tough time in pacifying unruly members of the Ram Leela committee when power supply was snapped due to night rostering. With this all the Ram Leelas and other religious ceremonies in progress had to be stopped abruptly. At that time, ADM City Abrar Ahmad worked restlessly and succeeded in getting the supply resumed at 1.30 am. At this point only one feeder at Muir Mill was made operational given the situation at hand.

When the ADM, City contacted CGM of KESCo PC Chaudhary on telephone to ascertain the reason behind power failure, he replied that KESCo’s control room was not responding to his telephone calls. Chaudhary gave the same reply when the officials from the DM’s residence inquired about the power failure. It was only after the efforts of the ADM, City that the power supply to the Parade Ram Lila was restored from the Mayur Mill substation at around 1.30 am on Wednesday.

The DM in his letter requested to keep the city free from night rostering to ensure smooth completion of ongoing religious functions. A shobhayatra from the Parade Ram Lila is being taken out daily and it passes through several sensitive areas of the city. Absence of power in such a scenario could be disastrous.

The KESCo CGM stated that generation of power supply went down all of a sudden resulting power cuts in the city.

“A request has been made to the authorities concerned in the State capital to keep the city free from night rostering in view of ongoing festivities,” added Chaudhary.

Apart from the night rostering, the city is also confronting excessive rostering during the daytime.

For the past 15 days, the entire city has been experiencing night rostering.

A senior KESCo official pointed out that the demand for power supply in the entire State had gone up manifold due to the festivities.
