Expert lays stress on tele-robotic surgery

Renowned Urologist, Dr. Anil Kapoor from MacMaster University, Canada, said that Tele-Surgical and Tele Robotic Urologic Surgeries could play a vital role in improving urologic surgeries.Dr. Kapoor made these remarks while delivering Jaipur Oration on ?Advanced Tele-Surgical and Tele- Robotic Urological Surgery? during Usicon-2006. The oration function, which was being held on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), entered sthird day on Saturday.

He said, “By using this method even a small hospital can get instructions from advanced centres in the country and abroad.”He also held video demonstration programmes on the robotic and tele-surgical method. “Application of robot for surgery is coming up well and it will provide perfection to surgical knives,” he said.

Dr Kapoor said surgeries, performed through robot was less traumatic to the patients as it was being done using optical cameras. Though this technique was available in a few hospitals in India because of the high cost of robot machines, Dr Kapoor felt that the cost of robot machines would come down soon.Dr. John Fitzpatrick from the USA , MS Agrawal from Agra and Dr. Kim Mammon of CMS Ludhiana dwelt at length upon investigation methods of Intra Venus Philogram (IVP).

They said that owing to advancement in radio diagnosis methods, this technique was not much useful as it required a chemical to be injected in human bodies.Dr. Rainy Umbas, from Indonesia, spoke on the advanced use of androgen, to treat the patients, suffering from prostrate cancer.Besides, a large number of urology experts delivered lectures at different technical sessions.
