Explosive device defused at Srinagar R-Day venue

The device was planted at exactly the same spot where an explosion had taken place last year.

Srinagar Police discovered on Saturday an improvised explosive device near the high-security Bakshi Stadium, the main venue of the Rebublic Day celebrations in the Kashmir Valley.

This was the same spot where militants had set off an explosion minutes before last year's Independence Day function.

Prompt action of the bomb disposal squad helped defuse the five-kilogramme device, which was kept inside a plastic container.

Security has been tightened in the city over the past few days to ensure smooth Republic Day function.
