Fake currency racket busted in Kullu; 3 held

The police have busted a fake currency racket by seizing Rs 62,800 counterfeit notes and arresting three people in the connection.

The police have busted a fake currency racket by seizing Rs 62,800 counterfeit notes and arresting three people in the connection.

Assistant police commissioner, Kullu, Nihal Singh said the police on June 30 had seized Rs 60,000 counterfeit notes and arrested one person on July 1.On the basis of leads provided by the accused, the police arrest two more persons, identified as Panna Lal of Patlikuhal and Khal Bhadur, a resident of Nepal working at Sarsae.

He said the police have also seized a printer, ink and scanner, which were being used to print fake currency.

This matter came to light when one of the accused Purshotam Negi made a payment on June 22 to Chhape Ram in connection with the sale of fruits at Bandrol market in Kullu. Finding the notes as fake, Chhape Ram reported the matter to the police, leading to arrest of Purshotam.He said police were trying to find out the other members involved in the racket.
