"I have only Rs 500 in my pocket," he added.

But the affidavit filed by Kejriwal presents an altogether different picture. According to it, he has Rs 4,25,085 in his SBI account. And his wife Sunita has total movable assets worth Rs 17,41,583.

Kejriwal also has immovable assets to the tune of Rs 92 lakh. While his wife has immovable assets worth Rs 1 crore.

"Having considerable movable and immovable assets is no big thing for a person having a B. Tech degree from IIT Kharagpur and who was also an IRS official. Arvind Kejriwal's wife is also a government official. But this man is just simply trying to fool people of Kashi by building his image of a fakir," said Dr Vishwanath Pandey, former BHU official.
