Kuldeep Singh's relatives, one of the Indians on death row, claim that he is innocent and that the trial is largely a farce. Sukhjinder Singh too is facing the firing squad in Dubai but his parents however vouch for their son's innocence.

Meanwhile, the External Affairs Minister SM Krishna told reporters that the consular access of the 17 persons has been obtained and the consulate in Dubai has been in touch with them.

"We have assured them that the Government of India will stand by them if they appeal in higher court," he said.
