Land disputes involving non-resident Indians (NRIs) will be dealt with by existing revenue courts that would act as fast track courts, NRI Affairs Minister Amarjit Singh Samra said on Thursday.

The existing revenue courts would fix a day every week across Punjab to deal with land cases of NRIs. "Cases of NRIs would be disposed of expeditiously. A special list of such cases would be prepared," he said.

State Government officials said land dispute cases involving NRIs had been on the increase with realty prices soaring across Punjab in recent years.

Samra said NRIs had been urging the state Government to set up fast track courts for their land disputes as they could come to stay in India only for limited periods.

The setting up of fast track courts would not put any additional financial burden on the state Government.
