The 23-year-old Swiss world number one accomplished a feat last done by Mats Wilander, adding to his Wimbledon and Australian Open crowns.
Federer also became the first player to win his first four Slam finals, going back to his 2003 Wimbledon crown.
"I still can't believe I have done this, won three Grand Slams out of four and to win the US Open is amazing," Federer said. "Not in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would win a US Open."
Federer showed why he has become the most dominant player in the game, needing just 18 minutes to take that opening set and winning the first eight games of the championship match at the 17.8 million dollar Grand Slam event.
