Fight poverty to win UP: Rahul

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday asked his partymen to reach out to people to fight poverty and not confront the parties that were on decline.
Rahul obviously meant that the Congressmen should not waste their energy in fighting the regional parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party.
“We need not fight against political parties or individuals. We need to fight against poverty,” said Rahul while speaking at the Uttar Pradesh Congress Coordination Committee meeting convened to workout the party’s roadmap to accomplish his ‘Mission UP 2012’.
“We will have to reach out to people in rural areas. We will have to work for poor, form new equations, strengthen organisation and start a new way of politics,” he said. Rahul’s observations become significant in the backdrop of apprehensions that the assembly elections may also be held before 2012.
As the deliberations were held at a closed-door meeting at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) headquarters, the Congressmen struggled outside to have a glimpse of Rahul.
A number of others who had assembled at various welcome points from Amausi airport to UPCC headquarters showered flowers on Rahul who left for Amethi without interacting with media.
