During the violence, DIG Agra Range was injured while IG Agra Zone suspended two cops, including the station in-charge.
The police officers were targeted by criminals who pumped about a dozen bullets in the two. One of the injured, Dinesh Pratap Singh, informed about the attack on wireless and both were taken to a hospital. The other, Girraj Kishore, was already dead by then and Dinesh was referred to Agra, but he too later succumbed to bullet injuries.
Their agitated relatives reached Subhash Tiraha on Agra Kanpur highway. They chased police reaching out to pacify them and about a dozen vehicles on road were targeted and damaged. A police jeep was put on fire and DIG Agra, Vijay Singh Meena, was struck in the head by a stone pelted at him.
‘DIG Agra was injured in head during stone pelting but recovered after initial bleeding. The situation has been brought under control and traffic was restored on Agra Kanpur highway’ said Sunil Gupta, IG Agra Zone.
Meanwhile, CM Akhilesh Yadav declared a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for family members of each of the deceased policemen.
