The incident took place when the bridegroom's grandfather, Vikram Singh, was trying to load a .12 caliber double-barrel gun belonging to bridegroom's father. "The gun went off accidentally and the shot hit the ground. The splinters hit five children standing nearby. They were rushed to a hospital. Nobody sustained severe injuries. All injured are stable," a police officer said.

Singh is stated to be an Air-Force officer, presently posted at Bikaner. Senior police officials said that the gun was seized and Singh detained at Kavi Nagar police station.

"We are awaiting a formal complaint from the victim. The licence of the gun will be cancelled," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prashant Kumar told Hindustan Times.
