Five held for assaulting doctors at KEM hospital

Five persons were arrested in connection with the alleged assault on five doctors at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) hospital where medics went on a strike protesting the incident.

Five persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged assault on five doctors at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) hospital where medics went on a strike protesting the incident.

Eight more persons are suspected to be involved in the attack, police said.

“The investigation is still on,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S B Bhaviskar told reporters in Mumbai.

The five arrested are Ganesh Aduvarekar, Rohan Meher, Satish Sandev, Amarnath Parekar, Yogesh Salaskar.

Meanwhile, the dean of the hospital Dr Sanjay Oka along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Deputy Commissioner Kishore Gajbiye held three hour meeting with the resident doctors who stopped working this morning after five of their colleagues were allegedly assaulted last night in the casualty ward.

The doctors were assaulted by the relatives of an elderly patient who died at the hospital on Monday night over the issue of post mortem, resident doctors said.

The 73 year old patient who was brought to the hospital around 1730 hours died on Monday evening.
