Five suspected militants have been killed in separate militancy-related incidents in Manipur, official sources said.

A combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel were checking the passers-by at Lairenpat area near Imphal at around 9 pm on Saturday night following reports that some militants were roaming around there.

Three persons in a car fired at the security when challenged. The three were killed in the ensuing shootout, the sources said.

Police suspected them to be members of Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) but this was yet to be confirmed. Two 9 mm pistols and a carbine were found from the car.

In another incident, Assam Rifles personnel in an encounter shot dead a suspected member of United National Liberation Fornt (UNLF) at Irengban area in Thoubal district yesterday, sources said.

One 9 mm pistol with some rounds of ammunition was found from from his person, the sources said. The man was identified as Pukhram Bam Raju (32).

In the third incident, a suspected militant identified as Haobisam Sarat Chandra (36) was gunned down at Muramba Loukon area in Thoubal district on Saturday by unidentified gunmen in what appeared to be in a factional fight within a militant outfit.
