Police said a two-wheeler of a person belonging to a particular community, hit a bus driver, following which there was a quarrel between the two.

Other drivers and conductors present took the person inside the depot and reportedly locked the gate from inside.

Hearing the incident, about 200 persons from the area rushed to the spot and asked the crew to release the motorcyclist, even as the drivers stopped plying the buses and left the vehicles in the middle of the road, paralysing the traffic in the area.

As the blockade continued and tension started mounting, police, including senior police officials rushed to the spot and requested the agitating members to disperse. However, the bus crew wanted immediate action against the motorcyclist for allegedly beating the driver, a union leader.

Meanwhile, local people raised slogans and asked the crew to ply the buses. Police assured them action would be taken following which they dispersed.

The driver and the motorcyclist were admitted to hospital. Traffic was paralysed for two hours, following the incident, police said.
