Forest minister asks SPs to provide police protection to shepherds

With spurt in incidents of cattle theft, forest minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri on Thursday asked superintendents of police of all districts to provide police protection to all shepherds.

With spurt in incidents of cattle theft, forest minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri on Thursday asked superintendents of police of all districts to provide police protection to all shepherds.

He revealed that many incidents of cattle theft had been reported in the state during the recent past, which was a matter of serious concern.

“Directions have been given to the police authorities concerned to ensure police protection to the shepherds within their judiciary,” he said.

The shepherd community had also complained regarding incidents of theft. He said licenced gun should be provided to shepherds for protection of their property.

The minister reiterated the government's commitment to provide protection to the shepherds and even more effective steps would be taken to ensure their safety.
