The formed head of Bilaspur Nagarpalika, who was also a history sheeter, was killed on the spot while his relative died at the hospital within hours. Police said the assailants were from an opponent gang, led by another history sheeter.

The police have managed to arrest the four accused while six others were absconding till late evening.

“Abdul Qadir Khan (50) and Abid Hussain were at a barber shop on Bilaspur road when around 8.45 a.m. some assailants fired at them. Abdul died on the spot while Abid succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. One Salman Khan was also suffered in the shooting,” said T.J. Singh, Dankore SHO.

“Abdul was a history sheeter involved in 35 cases of loot and murder. The opponent gang leader, Talib Khan, too, is a history sheeter. They were having a land dispute,” Singh said.

The police suspect the dispute over land could have been a reason for killing the former corporator.

Police said a case of murder has been registered against 10 people. Four of them — Zafar Khan, Adil Khan, Shahid Khan and Faeem Khan — have been arrested on Thursday afternoon while a manhunt has been launched to arrest the others.

The police said they have recovered the motorcycle used in the crime along with a double barrel gun, one country-made pistol and two knives from the accused.
