Former MP made CLM

SURESH A Keswani, former Member of Parliament (MP) has been appointed by the President of India as the new Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities (CLM). He has taken over charge of the post on June 8, 2006.

SURESH A Keswani, former Member of Parliament (MP) has been appointed by the President of India as the new Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities (CLM). He has taken over charge of the post on June 8, 2006.

The post of CLM is a Constitutional appointment under Article 350 B (I) of the Constitution. The CLM is responsible to investigate all matters relating to safeguards provided for linguistic minorities under the Constitution as also under the Nationally Agreed Scheme of Safeguards. He presents an annual report to the President of India and through him to Parliament.

Allahabad is the national headquarters of the organisation of the CLM under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, with three Regional Offices at Belgaum, Chennai and Kolkata, said LK Choudhary, Administrative Officer in a press release.
