Former Mumbai police commissioner, DS Soman, died at the Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday evening following a brief illness. He was 82.

He is survived by a son and daughter. His wife had passed away two-and-a-half years ago. The cremation will take place at the Dadar crematorium at 11 am on Monday.
A 1953 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Soman had served as the Mumbai police commissioner in 1987-88 before he was promoted as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra.
During his career, Soman had also served as an additional municipal commissioner in the BMC.
He also worked as the additional chief secretary (home) and also held several important Central assignments.
He lived with his family at the Sagar Tarang building in Worli after retirement from service.
