Former SIMI activists still being questioned

Two former SIMI activists, picked up by police last night, were still being questioned, police sources said.

Two former SIMI activists, picked up by police last night, were still being questioned, police sources said on Tuesday.

Abdul Rehaman of Ulliyanoor and Ashraf of Vedimara were picked up from Veliyathnadu near here for questioning by police on Monday based on their past links with the SIMI.

Rehman has been participating in the acitivities of 'Darul Quran', a charitable society, which distributes scholarship to 150 needy students in Ernakulam, the sources said.

The previous activities of the duo were counter-checked and their computer hard discs were being verified in their presence, the sources said.

If nothing incriminating was found the two will be released, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Rural SP, M Padmanabhan on Tuesday morning, convened an urgent meeting of rural DYSPs to intensify combing operations in the area.
