?Free vaccination of kids need of the hour?

"PROTECTING CHILDREN against deadly diseases is a great social service. Free vaccination facility should be provided to all children irrespective of their family status and income," said district magistrate Amrit Abhijat here on Sunday. The DM was speaking at the inaugural function of Free Immunisation Centre and Shyama Prasad Ahuja Memorial Charitable Dispensary at Allahabad Medical Association building here.

Amrit Abhijat said AMA also need to provide its services in disease-prone Shankargarh area, where several organisations are running schools for poor children. He said a regular 'Samvad' (communication) need to be established between district administration and doctors for better coordination and solving issues related to the medical community.

"One such initiative has been made by the district administration for solving the problems of traders. After regular meetings with traders and businessmen many of their issues were taken up at the higher level," he informed.

The DM assured the AMA members for easing out licensing procedure and setting up a single window system for the issue of licence. He said the power problem faced by AMA members in running the blood bank will also be seriously considered.

The DM also administered polio drops to a child to mark the beginning of Free Immunisation Centre at AMA.

AMA secretary Dr VK Gupta said the Free Immunisation Centre will run on every Tuesday and Saturday at the AMA premises.

The children will be registered between 8am and 9pm followed by vaccination. The costly Hepatitis-B and MMR vaccine will also be provided free to the children. Over two dozen paediatricians will provide free services at the centre. There will also be free health check-up of children.

Paediatrician and convenor Dr Anil Shukla spoke on the importance of immunisation for a healthy child and society. "We were able to eradicate small pox through mass scale immunisation only. It is also very important to immunise children belonging to lower income group," he said.

Dr Kartikay Sharma informed about the role of doctors' grievance redressal committee. AMA president Dr B Paul gave welcome address.

He also informed about the achievements of AMA in past one year and the rural and speciality camps organised by the AMA members. The programme was also attended by Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Ashok Agarwal and several other senior doctors.
