East Midnapore Superintendent of Police S Panda said that violence broke out around noon at Tekhalibazar, Maheshpur, Bhangaberia, Sonachura, Satengabari, Gokulnagar and Adhikaripara besides other places.

Of the two injured in the firing, one was a woman, the SP said.

He said Trinamool Congress supporters had set up road blocks all over the district, severely hindering the movement of police and officials.

Asked what action the police were taking, Panda said that they were trying to prevent outsiders from entering Nandigram.

Panda said the police were unable to reach many of the trouble spots as roads remained dug up since January.
