Friend abducts, murders 17-year-old

A 17-year-old commerce student of DPS-Maruti Kunj, Gurgaon, was kidnapped and killed by a family friend on November 21.
Gurgaon Police arrested five of the accused from their homes on December 29 — Tuesday.
The main accused is pursuing MBA through a distance education programme.
Police said Mohammad Azaharuddin was picked up by the main accused, Saiyad Aftaab (21), on the pretext of a joyride. However, Aftaab and his accomplices drove their borrowed Alto car towards Etah in Uttar Pradesh.
The accused drove Azaharuddin 30 km away from Etah, to the jungles of Jaithra, strangulated him and abandoned his body there.
Police said ransom was the motive behind the abduction and murder.
The main accused returned home the same evening and even met with Azaharuddin’s family while his accomplices continued to demand ransom of Rs 50 lakh for about a month.
On December 23, Azaharuddin’s family reached Jhansi with the ransom money but the abductors did not come to collect it. But they used their mobile phone to call the victim’s family, and blew their cover.
