Fuel price hike: Bihar on alert before Left bandh

An alert has been sounded across Bihar for Tuesday's dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by the Left parties demanding a roll back of the fuel price hike and effective check on rising prices of essential commodities.

All police stations across the state have been alerted to thwart any attempt to breach peace and disturb normal life, sources in police headquarters said.

Patrolling on railway tracks, a soft target for agitators of various hues and ideological leaning, has been enhanced and security beefed up at railway stations, airports, bus terminals and other important installations, they said.

Essential services like water and electricity supply, hospitals and ambulance services and the media have been kept out of the purview of the bandh called jointly by CPI, CPI-M, CPI-ML, Forward Bloc, RSP and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Krantikari Manch.
