There are four basic profiles in a game development organisation.

* Game artist: creates 3D images of the characters
* Game designer: writes the script of the game
* Game programmer: the 'geek' who sits in front of the screen and gets the whole game into shape.
* Game tester: checks the game for flaws and loopholes in the script.
Level I: The entry-level salary is Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for any of the profiles.
Level II: The next promotion - which will be based on how well you can ideate, work with a team and get marketable results - gets you a pay cheque of Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000, depending on your performance. You can take this first step any time from six months to a couple of years after you join.
Level III: The managerial level, which you can reach within three years, will see you heading a team and earning a minimum of Rs 60,000 per month and a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per month.
Level IV: In about two years after that, you can reach a supervisory level as a project manager, with a minimum salary of Rs 90,000 and a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh per month.
