Ganguly was found to have breached C1 Level 2 of International Cricket Council's code of conduct which relates to unfair play due to his side bowling its overs too slowly, ICC said on its official website on Sunday.

India took 27 minutes beyond the permissible 3-1/2 hours to deliver 50 overs in Saturday's match.

He pleaded guilty at a hearing conducted by match referee Chris Broad after play concluded at Keenan stadium.

Five months ago, India's slow overrate during an ODI against Pakistan in Kolkata had resulted in Ganguly being sentenced to a two-Test ban by match referee Clive Lloyd.

ICC, however, later lifted the ban following an appeal by Ganguly.

"India have a history of bowling their overs slowly in one-day cricket but past events couldn't be taken into consideration in this case because they happened outside the previous 12 month period," Broad was quoted as saying in the website on Sunday.

"Ganguly accepts responsibility for today's slow over-rate and will aim to improve things for the forthcoming matches in this exciting series," added Broad.

All Level 2 breaches carry a minimum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee and a maximum penalty of their full match fee and/or a one Test or two ODI ban.

The charge was brought by umpires Billy Bowden, K Hariharan and A Jayaprakash.

Broad reached his conclusion after a hearing attended by Ganguly, Indian coach John Wright, team manager Baladitya, and the umpires.
