Ganguly to play Ranji one-dayers

He would stake his claim for a place in the ODI team when he turns up for Bengal in the Ranji limited overs matches.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly would stake his claim for a place in the one-day team when he turns up for Bengal in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy limited overs tournament, the East Zone leg of which is to be held at Dhanbad from February 11 to 19.

While Ganguly was named in the 14-member squad announced by the Cricket Association of Bengal, wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta was selected as the skipper.

CAB secretary Saradindu Paul said Ganguly, who has returned here after being excluded from the national squad for the ongoing ODI series against Pakistan, has agreed to play for the state.

Bengal would face Tripura in the lung opener on February 11 before taking on Jharkhand, Orissa and Assam in the following matches.

The team: Deep Dasgupta (captain), Sourav Ganguly, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rohan Gavaskar, Sourashis Lahiri, Manoj Tewari, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Subhajit Paul, Shiv Shankar Paul, Ranadeb Bose, Subhamoy Das, Kamal Hansan Mondal, Sanjib Sanyal and Shiv Sagar Singh.
