“I started smelling it right when I got out of Penn Station,” said Ivolett Bredwood, a legal assistant. “It is sickening.” The PATH train service between New York and New Jersey was stopped from Hoboken to 33rd Street and Journal Square to 33rd Street as a precaution. Some buildings were also evacuated as a precaution.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said that the city had yet to pin down the source of the smell. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said there was no indication that the odour was a terrorist attack, MSNBC reported. NYT
