Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday night resigned after the Congress was dislodged from power in the state but said his party would continue to work for welfare of the people.

The Congress would analyse factors that led to party's drubbing in the state, he told reporters after submitting his resignation to governor Margaret Alva.

"I humbly accept defeat and congratulate the winners. We will continue to work for welfare of the people and play a positive role," Gehlot said.

"We will analyse what went wrong," he said.

"Despite carrying out tremendous development, we lost and this is a matter of analysis," the chief minister said.

Gehlot alleged the BJP's campaign was based on lies and they misled people during electioneering.

An 'undercurrent' seemed to have worked against the Congress and the opposition had managed to create an incorrect impression in minds of the voter, he said.
