Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nitin Tiwari told HT that the programme will initially be launched in public spaces such as malls since schools are closed for summer vacation.
“We intend to educate school children about molestation and sexual assault. The programme will be started once the schools re-open after summer vacation. Till then, we will start the programme at public places such as malls,” Tiwari said.
He said government schools would be taken up on a priority basis, as they are more prone to such abuse.
“They come from poor families and don’t have access to counsellors. Even the teachers in government schools are not able to handle such situations,” the SSP said. During the recent months, several cases of rape and molestation against minors have been reported in Ghaziabad.
Two cases of attempted rapes on minors were reported in the month of April alone.
