Ghei to lead Indian challenge in Queen's Cup

Veteran Gaurav Ghei will spearhead the Indian challenge when the Queen's Cup golf tournament makes its Asian Tour debut at the Santiburi Samui Country Club in Samui.

Veteran Gaurav Ghei will spearhead the Indian challenge when the Queen's Cup golf tournament makes its Asian Tour debut at the Santiburi Samui Country Club in Samui on Thursday.

Apart from Ghei, Anirban Lahiri, Himmat Rai, C Muniyappa, Amandeep Johl and Rahil Gangjee will also be in the fray.

Veteran Boonchu Ruangkit, Chawalit Plaphol, 10-time winner Thaworn Wiratchant and upcoming star Kiradech Aphibarnrat will lead the Thai challenge in the the $300,000 event.

Also fancying their chances will be Australians Rick Kulacz and Darren Beck, winner of the last two stops in Malaysia and Brunei respectively, Singapore's Mardan Mamat, in-form Malaysian Shaaban Hussin and Korea's Lee Sung.

Indian pro Amandeep Johl, whose career includes 17 top-10s and two second place finishes, said he was scaling down his playing days, since his desire to compete has waned in recent months.
