According to a neighbour, the victim had an argument with her elder brother Shanker (22) who is hearing impaired.

Her mother, who works with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), intervened and rebuked Sujata. On this, the girl felt humiliated and went to her room and locked it from inside.

After some time, her mother found the door bolted and there was no response despite several calls.

The family members then broke open the door and found her hanging. “The girl was under depression for some time and that might have prompted her to take the extreme step,” the neighbour added.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities said the victim’s condition is critical.

“She was brought here in an unconscious state. Her condition is very critical. She is admitted in the ICU and we can say something only after 24 hours,” said a doctor.

The police said they are investigating the matter. “We cannot figure out what went so wrong. We are waiting for her to recover as she is on ventilator and we cannot record her statement,” said a police official. Sujata’s mother and brother have already given their statements to the police.
