A 21-year-old engineering girl student of a private university died and her classmate was critically injured on Wednesday after being hit by a speeding Gurgaon Municipal Corporation truck.
The garbage collection truck rammed the scooty, driven by the victim, from behind. The scooty was dragged it for about 10 metres and were finally pushed against a tree.
The victim, Anita Kataria, was an MTech student of ITM University in Palam Vihar and was a resident of Gurgaon. Her classmate, 22-year-old Ashish Mudgal, was a resident of Noida.
The two were rushed to Coulmbia Asia Hospital in Palam Vihar with multiple fractures.
“The efforts to revive the Anita failed and she succumbed to her injuries, while the boy was admitted in the ICU in critical condition,” Dr. Madhur Varma, the general manager of the hospital said.
According to the investigating officer Rajinder Singh, the accident happened near Sector 23 crossing where a speeding MCG truck rammed into the scooty from behind and dragged it for quite a distance. A passerby rushed the two to the hospital in his car.
Anita is said to have qualified for the Indian Air Force and was supposed to join the force on July 1.
