The GJM Press and Publicity secretary Benoy Tamang told PTI that the party had told the state government to transfer IGP (North Bengal) K L Tamta, ASP(HQ) A Chaturvedi and Kurseong Sub-Divisional Police Officer by noon of July 13,failing which the party would go for an indefinite strike.
The indefinite strike has also been suspended till July 13 to allow the tourists to leave the hills and local people to stock essentials, the sources said.
Tamang alleged that the three police officers had lathicharged GJM supporters at a rally in Panighata, about 35 km from here, yesterday to please "frustrated CPI(M)" which had failed to "create a political base" in the hills despite all efforts since floating of GJM in September 2007.
At least 25 supporters were seriously injured in the lathicharge, Tamang claimed.
