However, the Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal has ensured that the bandh call was a success whilst the Udyog Vyapar Mandal had opposed it. Traders of medicines had also opposed the proposed bandh call. Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal members said BJP MP Yogi Adityanath had extended his support to the bandh call.
The bandh call has been given to protest against the apathetic attitude of the government in redressing the problems faced by traders. An 11-points charter of demands was sent to the State Government demanding abolishing of the compulsory Form-31. The traders have also demanded development tax and entrance tax on commodities in the state should be stopped.
State secretary of Mandal Satyal Prakash Singh Munna demanded that multinational companies should not be allowed to purchase wheat and other edible oil crops directly.
They blamed trade tax Mandi Samiti and Power Corporation employees for harassing the traders. They also demanded roadside sellers in various cities should be provided shops by the concerned nagar nigams.
Meanwhile, state secretary of Udyog Vyapar Mandal and in charge of Gorakhpur and Basti Divisions Suresh Prasad Agrahari appealed to the traders not to participate in the bandh and to keep their shops open.
He said the government was sincere in resolving the problems of the traders and Transport Minister Naresh Agrawal had discussed the issue with Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
