Govt depts rush to save allocations for this fiscal

Major departments of the State Government involved in the task of allocation, remained opened despite being a holiday on Thursday. Senior officers of the Finance, Planning, State Treasury and various other departments remained available in their respective offices to make last minute approval to allow diversion of funds from one head to another. Besides, the State Government is also making matching grants available to utilise central funds that arrive at the last minute. Official statistics about the adjustments made on the last day though were not available. Sources said the State Government proposes to utilise maximum funds that have been allocated to various departments in the current financial year.

Take statistics of annual plan for 2005-2006. The State Government was able to utilise nearly Rs 10,000 crore by February 28, 2006 against annual plan size of Rs 13,500 crore.
