Govt employee arrested while taking bribe in J&K

A district floriculture officer was arrested by vigilance sleuths while allegedly taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said today.

A district floriculture officer was arrested by vigilance sleuths while allegedly taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said today.

Sharif-ud-din Lone, District Floriculture officer, Srinagar was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant Ghulam Qadir Sheik yesterday, he said.

Earlier, Sheikh had lodged a written complaint with Police Station Vigilance Organisation, Kashmir in which he said that Lone was demanding illegal gratification for release of his payment for earth filling at government parks and quarters at Sonawar and Gupkar road here, the spokesman said.

The accused was caught red handed while accepting phenolphthalein dusted amount of Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses, he said.

The tainted bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused officer, the spokesman added.
